Solomon Northup Day of Celebration 
The first celebration was held in 1999 and hosted by the City of Saratoga Springs.  The 15th Year Anniversary of Solomon Northup Celebration was held in July of 2013 and was highlighted by the attendance of staff and actors from the Fox Searchlight film “12 Years a Slave”  which was based on the book about and written by Solomon Northup. The film won the 2013 Oscar for best picture.   Lupita Nyong’o, also attended the celebration; she was awarded an Oscar in 2013 for best supporting actress for her role as Patsey in the film.

16 Year Anniversary of Solomon Northup Day hosted by Skidmore College
  Activities at the event included discussions with historians on Solomon Northup’s life and performances by musicians.

The event was attended by descendants, friends, and visitors!  ​

Descendants of Solomon Northup traveled from across the US to Saratoga Springs, NY.
